January 20 The New World and the MestizoI know movie lovers must be frantic about "Memoirs of a Geisha" now. I should have caught the movie last week when a friend of mine asked for a movie. Instead of Geisha, he insisted to watch Oliver Twist as he is going back to Ipoh, where only Penang and KL's cinemas showing this movie. I am sure you can guess what type of movie it is. Haha... OK. Don't keep away of this movie yet. Albeit the story is a bit simple and boring, u'll still be able to intoxicate yourself back into the ambience of the old London.
It was much much much much much better than The Promise《無極》. Nah, imagine i went into the toilet for N times, lingered outside the corridor just to wait for the movie to end? Uh... Crap...
Even 曹景行 on Phoenix TV also don't dare to say the movie is nice. <sorry for kidding with 曹景行>
Hehe... I am a staunch Hollywood-movie fan. A movie preview that drew my attention recently is this one - The New World. My instinct tells me that it is a MUST-watch movie.
The tagline of this movie is: Once discovered, it was changed forever. Yes. In case you didn't notice. The European has changed the entire continent, north from Canada south to Argentina in terms of the landscapes, their culture, their religions, their language, their genes and even their appearance! 500 years ago, the native people look like the current Red Indian, dark skin with dark hair, animistic... Some sort like this:
They did establish great civilizations like the Maya, Aztec... After the arrival of European, the natives in the north were reluctant to be assimilated and hence now being dislogded into reservations in the remote area. But in the south, the Latin American natives, hopped into an entirely different path. After the arrival of European in 1492, the european govts tried to impose new religions and social practices on the native cultures. There were, of course, resistance from the natives. But by 1600, disease, warfare, and forced labour reduced native population by as much as 90%!!! A quater million Spanish and Portuguese immigrants resettled in Central and South America and the West Indies by 1600. They brought diseases unknown in the Americas. The smallpox, alone, had killed over one quater of the native population between 1520 and 1584. To meet the demand of labour, the European brought the Africans across the Atlantic Ocean to the new world since 1505. The crossbreeding started here. The European, the Native American, the African started to cross-breed. I marry you, you marry me, and the hybrid of "Eufrimericans" were borned. Instead of being called "Eufrimerican", they are called Mestizo. There are still pure-blooded aborigines there in the isolated places. But, these pure-blooded people are regarded as "minorities" by the Mestizo. In fact, they were "under one roof" (although of different tribes) 500 years ago. We always have a notion that mix-blooded people usually consist of small population. Chinese-Portuguese Mestizo in Macau, comprises less than 5% of Macau Population. In Melaka, Orang Serani stay only in a small area. In the Philippines, they constitute no more than 2% of the entire Filipino population. BUT in LATIN AMERICA, inter-marriage was so common until the Mestizo make up the majority of the populations!!! Chile (90%) Colombia (58%) Ecuador (65%) El Salvador (90%) Honduras (90%) Mexico (60%) Nicaragua (69%) Panama (70%) Paraguay (95%) Venezuela (67%) Even the Mat Salleh came to Malaysia for a few hundred years, but they also never mix-blood with the local until this extend. The Thai and Chinese have already been integrated, but Thai culture never die and still prosper. Many Malays marry with the Middle-eastern people, but they still retain Malay language.
The case in America is very interesting right? Everythings changed, almost fully westernized. Get interested? The people use the language to show off (because they have nothing else to play the peacock). They like the language
People here like to incorporate their language with some English terms, esp the Malays. They can even replace basic terms, such as aku & kamu (me & you), with English words.
Example: I tak suka you pergi ke tempat itu!
You can see words like ‘transaksi’ (transaction), ‘teroris’ (terrorist), ‘kontaminasi’ (contamination) on Discovery Channel's subtitles.
Malay signboards like this is very common around the country.
In fact, these people are not talking to foreigners but among people of their own race.
I came across Kenny Sia's blog entry sneering at the English in China.

Apparently, the shop selling bubble tea (珍珠奶茶) is having the Chinese-educated people as its target customers. Why are they using English in their discount cards, with NO Chinese word AT ALL???
It's like some Chinese restaurants hanging ‘NO PORK SERVED’ signboard on the wall. The Muslims will not visit your restaurants even though you do not serve pork, cuz your chickens are not Halal too! (Certain ritual has to be conducted before killing in order to make the chicken Halal.)
A lesson to learn: Please make sure your languages are good like...
Or simply get (hire) someone to help you.
If your English is bad and your target customers do not know English, PLEASE don't act clever and put Enggeriisssh.
Product like this is perfectly FINE in China. Because their target customers do not know English!

January 14 鳥人鳥，依據《現代漢語詞典》是脊椎動物的一綱，體溫恆定，卵生，嘴内無齒，全身有羽毛，胸部有龍骨突起，前肢變成翼，後肢能行走。
鳥人，依據《大馬華語詞典》是人的一種，體溫恆定，嘴内無“恥”，趾高氣揚，態度目中無人。
鳥，也可以是動詞，是“無理取鬧，胡亂指責”的縮寫。
例句： 1.) “鳥人”今天又神經錯亂，胡亂“鳥”人了。
是的。我今天又被“鳥人”“鳥”了。前為名詞(Noun)，後為動詞(Verb)。
這個“鳥”我的“鳥人”最近越來越屌，令我不吐不快。
我是在大學的活動裏認識鳥人的。他對周圍的時事新聞都很關心。那時的他並不屌。但最近不知他是不否染上H5N1的禽流感（Avian Flu）還是神經錯亂，近一年來時常愛鳥我。
早在一年前，他已經有類似“愛鳥我”的病徵，但我並沒察覺，也不太在意。 直到前幾個月，我和他在一次的談話中意見合不來，這個鳥人竟然沒經過我的同意，把我們之間的談話傳發了出去給無數我不認識的人。
我一向來路見不平便會聲援相助，直言不畏是我的作風。我不會抹黑事實，扭曲真相。但，這個鳥人卻仗著“言論必須政治正確（Politically correct）”的高姿態，來制止他人的言論（評論）自由。
你如果不向他投誠，他便會以粗話攻擊，不然的話他就會仿效黑社會的做法，把你剛才的言論分發出去，冀望有人會聲援他，聯合衆人來攻擊我。(好心不要那樣幼稚啦！)
也許我善忘，別人對不起我的事過一些日子後就忘記了。前幾天他找我談新中學校事件，我還以爲他的“禽流感”病情好轉了，主動找我説話。
但是今天，可能是疫苗無效，鳥人的禽流感又惡化了。我今早發了一封關於中國大陸政府封殺Wikipedia的措施為一項不成熟的舉措的訊息給他後，又被他鳥了。九番十次的向我挑釁，簡直是在找岔兒！這次我可惱了。終于，我從朋友網誌欄下刪除了“鳥人”的網誌鏈接，因爲我發現人類與鳥無法溝通。
雖然意見不和只是小事一樁，但容忍是有限度的。我不能苟同一個表面為正人君子、事事面面俱到的人在私底下含血噴人。打著“政治正確”旗號來限制他人的言論自由。
順口給鳥人一個意見：一個沒有立場的人，無論你多麽關心時事，無論寫了多少網誌(Blog)，都只能是一個傳聲筒。只要我給錢，我已經可以坐在家裏接收全世界各地160多傢的電視臺。我不需要沒有立場的傳聲筒。

I was amazed, not by the simple story, but the ability of the movie-makers to drag it for 2 hours and 10 minutes. It's (The Pianist) Roman Polanski's movie but don't judge a movie by its director. This is what I learned.
